A Holy Experience

Another week, another list.  Here we go then, in no particular order, On Monday 4th March 2013 I am thankful for . . . .

863.  The best Christmas gift we could have wished for under the circumstances, the nurses at the hospital, somehow, through various phone calls managed to get my father a bed at the hospice, a much calmer, more peaceful environment than the hospital ward he was on.

864.  He's still with us.  For however long we have left, he's still here.

865.  He is only an hour's drive away.  Yes, that makes things difficult, but it could be so much worse.  I've had friends have to take flights to visit ailing parents, and because of the cost had to wait until the last moments.  We can visit weekly, even multiple times a week some weeks, without too much disruption to our schedule.

866.  My sister, who has done the bulk of the visiting and kept us up to date with what is happening.

867.  Friends at church who have travelled similar journeys with family members over the last few months, who have been there to hug and to say "I understand."

868.  Video notices from the children's outreach team went well at church this morning. A number of laughs were heard.  I hope to make this a regular thing throughout the year.  Here is a cut down version. (watch for the cast member jumping in shock at 2:39)

869.  Plans for our first primary school prayer space are coming along nicely.  You'll see more on that over the next few weeks.

870.  A husband who loves me and works hard to provide all that we need.

871.  A part time job for our eldest while he is at university.  Hard hours, and interesting senior staff, BUT it's brining him some much needed money.

872.  The possibility of an awesome opportunity for eldest son this summer.  So excited for him and praying it comes about.

873.  Meanwhile youngest son is moving along nicely with his studies and handing in his extended project tomorrow morning.

874.  The possibility, just the tiniest possibility of getting to Gathering of Artisans in Scotland this summer.  At £275 plus transport I can't see how we are ever going to make it happen, but even the possibility is an exciting thing.  I am keeping the dates free so that if God provides the finances I can go. (I can't link the image to the booking page yet as booking doesn't open until the end of next week).

875.  Friends, online friends who are more IRL than I could ever have imagined them being.  Thank you ladies, I am so glad for what we have!

holy experience

Another week, another list.  Here we go then, in no particular order, On Monday 22nd October 2012 I am thankful for . . . .

863.  My youngest son's 18th Birthday means there are no longer officially children in this house.

864.  Wonderful hugs from a 6 year old with aspergers, they are the highlight of my week, because they come with no conditions, no expectations, and if he doesn't want to hug you it's because HE doesn't want to today, not because of what you've done or not done.

865.  A hug from one of my heroes in children's ministry.  Yes, Keith if you're reading this you're one of my heroes!

866.  Hearing him speak to the church, and nodding all the way through because I completely got it!

867.  God speaking through trusted friends.

868.  Hubby's pay rise, it's something even if it's not what we were hoping for.

869.  Supermarkets that offer online shopping with delivery.

870.  A quieter week after the busiest 3 weeks I have had all year.

871.  Youngest son getting to take a day off rehearsals for Calamity Jane to recover from this nasty cold he picked up, although prayers for recovery in time for this evening's rehearsal would be good, as performances begin on Wednesday.

872.  Kind, although puzzling, comment as I was leaving church yesterday.

873.  Fun with the children after church had finished yesterday.  One of them began following me, so I made a comment about having a shadow.  Then another joined in and another and pretty soon I had 7 children trailing behind me following my every move.  I took them on a long walk in and out of the rows of chairs, round and round the lectern and so on.

851. Safe journeys to and from Leeds last week.

852.  The camaraderie that builds amongst a group of total strangers who are all waiting for the same bus that ends up being an hour late.

853.  My hubby hung around and waited to pick me up at the other end, even though we had added another half an hour delay by then, on top of the 1 hour when it picked us up.

854.  Church directors that believe in my dream to have prayer spaces in local schools enough to pay for me to go to the training day.

855.  Awesome day at Prayer Spaces training, lots of information, but more about building enthusiasm and excitement.

856.  The members of my Sunday's Cool team.  All the hard work they put in to sharing Jesus with the children. And all the ways they bless the children as well as me.

857.  Wonderful hugs from one of the younger children.

858.  Cupboards full of supplies, even if I have to give it a good clear out every so often.

859.  Reminders of all the years I've taught in Sunday's Cool, when going through old curriculum and supplies.

860.  15 minutes chores, 15 minutes me stuff repeated through the day really DOES get stuff done!

861.  Cleaning supplies that make chores easier.

862.  The new vacuum cleaner my husband bought out of the overtime money he earned last month.  It is so much more powerful than our old one, WOW.

863.

Another week, another list.  Here we go then, in no particular order, On Monday 1st October 2012 I am thankful for . . . .

829.  The wonderful conversation time hubby and I had last night while out for a drive.

830.  The visit our church had from Bob Johnson this week, he was such an encouragement.

831.  For the wonderful time we had with the children, staff and parents of our local school when they visited our church for their harvest festival.

832.  The nosebleed that one of the children had in the middle of the service was dealt with quickly and calmly by staff and the little girl was fine.

833.  We were able to spend time with some of the parents and staff after the service, chatting.

834.  Their poems, pictures and songs of thanksgiving.

835.  That last week was a smooth week despite it being such a busy one by my standards.

836.  The new spark that I have felt in my life over the last couple of weeks.

837.  Bargain price books for me and my son.  Loving Amazon Warehouse deals.

838.  An extra member of the team for Open The book still helped out at the one school even though the other school made it too difficult for her to be there through their red tape.

839.  Two of the schools I do assemblies at are within walking distance, which helps a lot when you don't have access to a car during the day.

840.  Yesterday's 5th Sunday, "Invite Your Friends Special" went really well.  All the children's team helped in some way and we had a fantastic morning.

824.  The father bringing stuff to the surface so that it can be dealt with.

825.  Great weather for the Race for Life Yesterday.

826.  I finished the full 5km with no pain even though two shorter practice walks earlier in the week had resulted in pain.

827.  Phone call from my dad after the race.

828.  Challenge to walk further, 100 miles in 100 days.  Hmmmmmm, still considering but I am thankful for the challenge.

Another week, another list.  Here we go then, in no particular order, On Monday 21st May 2012 I am thankful for . . . .

799. the team that came all the way from America for the writers conference.

800.  A fresh flow of the spirit in recent weeks at our church meetings.

801.  My first ever mini sermon went well.  I got lots of good feedback and was really pleased with how it went.

802.  2 minutes of encouragement.  Both giving and receiving.  (harder than you think, try it some time).

803.  New depth to prayer.

804.  For the intro to a new parenting course.  For a realisation that god might be setting us up but both husband and I acknowledging that would fit with the things God has spoken over us in the past.

805.  Family being in the same city as my eldest son is at university in, so that they can help out when needed.

806.  A young adult in the church who is willing to share his knowledge and love of maths with my equally geeky 17 year old son and help him through any sections of his maths course he struggles with.

807.  Cafes with big tables and beautiful views so that I can drink my hot chocolate and spread out with my journal and pen, and homework for a course I am doing and take all morning over it if needed.

808.  The gentlemen on a neighbouring table who finally left.  I am thankful for them leaving, they had been discussing their need of sawn off shotguns and so on, hmmmmm.

809.  The encouragement to my son of being invited to an awards evening.

810.  Although he didn't win or get runner up he was in the top 4 students on a particular scheme, who were nominated for student of the year.

811.  The fun we had on the journey home, with my son joking around with all sorts of accents and things.

812.  All the people that picked up the slack on Friday as our two main church leaders at short notice could not attend the first session of a conference we were hosting.

813.  All the wonderful worship teams who led us in worship over the weekend, such powerful times.

814.  A new freedom and vision and stepping out.

815.  being in a church where use of the arts in worship is allowed.  And my first time painting properly during worship.

holy experience

Another week, another list.  Here we go then, in no particular order, On Monday 14th May 2012 I am thankful for . . . .

780.  The incredible breadth of music that glorifies God and the technology that allows us to carry it with us (which reminds me I need to find my usb to phone cable so I can put some more on my phone).

781.  Bumping into old friends and their immediate understanding and acknowledgement over a difficult situation that came up in conversation.

782.  The 3 day weekend, with an extra day at home for hubby and youngest son.

783.  Finally getting through on the phone to the dentist and booking an appointment.

784.  My dental problem being easily dealt with.

785.  For the plants we were able to get at the cheaper garden place to spruce up our back garden (yard).

786.  There was enough of a break in the wet weather for us to get those plants into their containers.

787.  The opportunity to be in school each week doing Open the Book bible story assemblies.

788.  The head teacher of another school who apologised for the mix up in calendars last time.

789.  Having such a flexible church building.

790.  The soft comfy carpets in the church foyer.

791.  The income the church earns from taking outside bookings for the wonderful spaces we have.

792.  Industrial sized carpet Shampooing machines and the tool hire place that is so good to us and let us have one for less than half list price for the day when one of those bookings makes a mess.

793.  Awesome weekend at the Written by the Spirit Christian writers conference.  WOW, such spirit led and filled worship, and teaching that both challenged and informed in order to increase both our anointing and our skill level.

794.  Leadership Interactive at church is pushing me to dig deeper and go beyond what I thought I was willing or able to do.

795.  My mini sermon for leadership interactive is finished and will hopefully go well tonight.

796.  Awesome gift of loads of fabric for my craft room from a friend at church.

797.  The Unlocking the Heart of the Artist online course, the awesome amazing people also doing the course and the incredibly tough homework that makes us dig deep into questions about who we are and what we are called to.

798.  The realization that visions and dreams I had before I ever really got into art, could actually be connected with the art stuff.

799.

Another week, another list.  Here we go then, in no particular order, On Monday 30th April 2012 I am thankful for . . . .

771.  Painkillers and prayers that are holding this toothache at bay just enough for me to get through my days.

772.  When I finally have time to visit the dentist it is only just down the road.

773.  Awesome night away with hubby.  We managed to get some walking in around Bath even though it was terrible weather.

774.  Did some art supplies shopping while we were there.  Grabbed 2 pads of the watercolour paper I am using in one of my online courses at an incredible price and a few colours of Neocolor II, watercolour crayons.

775.  Wonderful to see a friend back at church yesterday, who has been ill for a while.  And to see a smile on her face too!

776.  5th Sunday event yesterday went well.  Every time a month has 5th Sunday we are asking the children of Sundays Cool to invite their friends to church.  We only had 2 visitors this time but it went well.

777.  Youngest son was awesome in his first full performance with the local musical theatre group.  And they all coped very well with the rather dramatic events of the evening.

778.  The cast member who collapsed mid performance is recovering well at home.

779.  Exciting times as the Unlocking the Heart of the Artist course begins.  We have had our first, test skype call, and have another coming this week.

Monday, 23 April 2012

holy experience

Another week, another list.  Here we go then, in no particular order, On Monday 23rd April 2012 I am thankful for . . . .

759.  Encouragement before and after whole church "business meeting".  In the past these meetings have been used (more than once) by individuals to bash the kids team (unfairly in my opinion) and as leader of that team these meetings make me anxious.  But this time it was amazing.  I had 3 new volunteers for the kids team, 1 even before the need for volunteers was mentioned.  God is good.

760.  Leadership Interactive went well, I'm learning lots from the mini sermons being given by other members of the class.

761.  I now have 3 whole weeks to prepare for the next leadership interactive where I will be giving my mini sermon.  I'm nervous but I have plenty of time to get this written right.

762.  More encouragement on Tuesday when the head teacher of the school our church has the closest relationship with spoke to me about something I had been hoping to be able to do.  I thought he had maybe forgotten but didn't want to remind him in case he felt I was being pushy, and HE approached me about it!

763.  Hope for a friend who is struggling.

764.  New parts for my CPAP mask at annual clinic appointment.  That should make it fit better, these part do have a habit of wearing out.

765.  Being blessed beyond measure by hubby when he OK'd me taking part in an 8 month online class for Christian artists.  At last count there were only 3 places left, so if you are interested, you'd better get in there FAST.

766.  More encouragement once I joined the facebook group for the course, from other artists who like my work.  That still feels weird to me.

767.  Plans came together for "5th Sunday" where the Sunday's Cool children get to invite their friends to church.  Got the children working on invitations and so on yesterday and 2 of the teen girls volunteered to do the drama, so its going to be a good time.

768.  Back to the online course.  one of the books we need will not arrive in time for the start date because I have had to order it from America, but the course leader has promised that she will make sure I, and anyone else affected this way, will not miss out.

769.  While a course I was supposed to go to this coming week has been cancelled, they will be refunding all monies paid.  I can't however get the money back for the hotel room I booked.  So, hubby is taking a couple of days off work and we are heading away for one night this week, so the room booking doesn't go to waste.

770.  While I haven;'t been feeling 100% this week, I did take time to spend some time in my craft room.  I like the silver haired lady that I ended up working on.

Another week, another list.  Here we go then, in no particular order, On Sunday 15th April 2012 I am thankful for . . . .

747.  The charity hair cut went well and we have raised over £100 so far with the total still rising.

748. Charities like The Little Princess Trust that help children who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment.

749. Charities like Calla that fight to combat trafficking.

750.  Wonderful 2 week break from work over Easter, I needed the head space to not even have to think about it for a while.

751.  Having eldest home from university for a while.

752.  Time alone with hubby while both sons were off at Epidemic Life youth weekend.

753.  Supermarket points vouchers that paid for dinner on Thursday at Bella Italia.

754. Wonderful experience at the Old Hall Persian restaurant in Donnnington, Shropshire.  WOW, what an incredible experience.  If you opt for the "Culinary Selection" buffet, the chef comes out and explains each of the dishes to you.  This was just the starters:

If you're local and have never been I would heartily recommend a visit.

755.  Hubby and I both managing to find some geocaches while out on a walk on Friday.

756.  The beautiful foal we saw while on that walk.  The foal must only have been a couple of weeks old at the most and the mother horse would not let the foal get between her and the fence.  Hence this being the best photo I managed to get.

757.  Postman arrived with eldest son's bus pass just as youngest was leaving to head to the youth weekend.  When the group were 2 hours late picking him up I was mad, but when the postman arrived right at that moment and youngest was able to take the pass with him to hand to his brother, I kind of let all that go.

758.  Safe journey home for youngest, even if it did mean hubby waiting up until 3 am for his return.

Another week, another list.  Here we go then, in no particular order, On Monday 9th April 2012 I am thankful for . . . .

732.  Art can be thankful too.

733.  Menu Planning and shopping lists, mean less trips to the store, especially now I don't have access to the car during the day.

734.  "I enjoy these one word studies", thanks Tam.

735.  Having eldest son home for a week and a half for Easter.  And with a better attitude too.

736.  My neck is feeling much better today after 3 days of pain and restricted movement.  Not all the way there but MUCH better than yesterday morning.

737.  The friend who prayed for my neck at church yesterday morning and then talked of her own experience of pain and how healing often comes through worship.

738.  Awesome Easter Sunday service taken by the young adults of the church.  They led worship, they organised and ran some small activities, they organised Easter gifts for the children, they even preached.  Well done Ryan, you were awesome!

739.  Hubby working from home on Friday.

740.  Hubby taking better breaks while working from home over the weekend.  Sigh, I wish he didn't have to work at the weekend (after a full week of work), but if he has to, this weekend was better, as he paced himself.

741.  An opportunity to bless a little girl somewhere and support a charity closer to home too.

742.  Friends who have already sponsored us, THANKS everyone.

743.  The one words for small group  for at least the next 6 weeks have been chosen and written in people's diaries.

744.  Hubby and I will get a couple of days to ourselves this week as both our sons head off to a young people's conference.  One with the youth from our church, the other to help out because he interned at that church last year.

745.  Hugs from children at church.

746.  Typical bank holiday weather.  Yes, it's raining, but we so need the rain, with so many areas under hosepipe bans already.

holy experience

Another week, another list.  Here we go then, in no particular order, On Sunday 25th March 2012 I am thankful for . . . .

717.  A good session at leadership course on Monday.  Got tell the story of a friend in Haiti AND listen to some good teaching too.

718.  One word studies at small group might not be going as well as we would like BUT they are going so much better than anything else we have tried with that group recently.

719.  2nd New Mattress means eldest will have a bed to sleep on when he comes home tomorrow.

720.  The switch to the smaller bed in that room gives more room to manoeuvre around the craft desk.

721.  Local school came down to our church building for their Easter service on Friday.  How awesome to hear all those children talking about how Easter is about far more than chocolate eggs and fluffy bunnies.

722.  The older ones singing Marys song moved me to tears.

723.  A successful journey to fetch hubby from work, despite delays on one of the routes.  (Love having the sat nav!)

724.  The facility to shop online for groceries.  Now that I will not have access to the car during the day again, it is going to be very useful.

725.  When the Sundays Cool team member who was supposed to be on duty was not able to attend due to illness, I was able to put together a lesson in 15 minutes because I have all the files in my Dropbox and I have the Dropbox app on my phone.  OK, so it was a bit smaller than having the sheets printed out, but at least it was something.

726.  Only got one trick played on me today.

727.  Whole family (well the 3 of us who live here ALL the time) are back on track with the healthy eating and logging all food and exercise.  The eldest who is going to be hoe for 2 weeks will just have to slot in!

728.  While I will have to do less of it now that we are watching what we eat I have been enjoying baking lately.

729.  Spark People, where I can log all food and exercise and get loads of advice and support for FREE.  Can't afford weight watchers or anything else like that so it is awesome that Spark is there!

730.  Got some art done this week.  Check out the process that led to this:

731.  Hope to get more art done this week, even though eldest is home and in the craft room for his bedroom.

704. Safe and swift journey to the craft show on Thursday.

705.  Lots of fun in workshops, painting canvases with Acrylic paints and other goodies, making Machine Embroidered Flowers and making Fimo Bears, amongst other things.

706.  Craft Show Bargains. (these were just a few of the things I picked up)

707.  Finishing a crafty gift for a friend.

708.  The ladies at church who helped me complete that crafty gift with messages of encouragement.

709.  Leftovers from yesterday's roast chicken that mean it's OK that I forgot to get meat out of the freezer for today's dinner.

710.  Being able to use up a glut of onions to make relish rather than having to throw them away.

711.  A Husband who doesn't mind that sometimes I disappear into my craft room, to knuckle down and get a project finished.

holy experience

Another week, another list, this time from just the last 2 days of awesome fun in Stratford upon Avon celebrating Shakespeare.  Here we go then, in no particular order, On Monday 19th March 2012 I am thankful for . . . .

680.  Safe journeys to and from Stratford upon Avon and a Sat Nav that got us right where we needed to be.

681.  Nice hotel for less than we expected to pay.

682.  Lots of journaling and reading time while youngest and the rest of the Tadlop team were in workshops and rehearsals.

683.  The gorgeous river Avon and it's inhabitants to sit by to do that journaling.

684.  It seems that everyone who was part of Tadlop had fun all weekend.  Including those who arrived too close to "just on time" to make it into the team photo, GRIN.

685.  Having a full McDonalds hot drink card so that I could give one away.

686.  Got to read the script for Heresy of Love even if I didn't make it to see the show earlier this year.  Well written and I  am so jealous of my eldest son who did get to see it.

687.  All you can eat breakfasts.

688.  The whole Open Stages Production was awesome, some incredible pieces and some confusing pieces.  Tadlop was among the incredible!  AWESOME, AMAZING, SPECTACULAR in fact.  I swear I don't know how some people can say they can't find any humour in Shakespeare, I had seen the Tadlop production before and it still made me laugh until I cried.

689.  The Royal Shakespeare Company for allowing "works based on Shakespeare" to still be part of the Open Stages Project.

690.  Each of the amateur theatre companies involved:

691. Masque theatre

692.  MDCC Theatre in association with Rambling Heart

693.  Banbury Cross Players

694.  Herrick Theatre

695.  Pattingham Drama Group

696.  Rogues & Vagabonds

697.  The Royal Air Force Theatrical Association

698.  Side by Side Theatre Company

699.  Telford and District Light Operatic Players (TADLOP)

700.  Standby Theatre

701.  Tread the boards Theatre Company

702.  the guy on the row in front of me nearly jumping out of his skin when one of the tadlop witches cackled.  I know I shouldn't laugh, but it was funny.

703.  All in all an awesome weekend.

704.

holy experience

Another week, another list.  Here we go then, in no particular order, On Monday 12th March 2012 I am thankful for . . . .

666.  Last week's session of the leadership Interactive course went well.  Food was yummy, well done to whoever chose Syria for the nation to be the subject of prayer that night.

667.  New mattress for youngest's bed arrived safely.  He says it is much more comfortable than his old one.

668.  Hubby having the larger company car over the weekend meant we were able to take the old mattress to the tip (dump) ourselves, rather than pay the council to take it away.

669.  Realisation that the study we were using in small group wasn't working led to a new idea that hubby and I both feel will fit this group well.

670.  A friend from church also wished to attend the funeral on Thursday of a lady from the school I do assemblies in.  Our local crematorium is not at all easy to get to on the bus, and because he was going I was able to get a lift.

671.  Dropping hubby at work on Friday morning means I have the car for the next 2 1/2 weeks while he uses a company car to support some work off site.

672.  It also meant I finally got to visit the National Memorial Aboretum which is just down the road from where he works on my way home.

673.  Picking youngest up from college last week and trawling the charity shops for a costume for his musical theatre performance next week led to a couple of nice bargains for me.

674.  Living close enough to the QVC Outlet Store to be able to pick up awesome crafty bargains when they appear.

675.  3 different sets of friends successfully moved house over the weekend.

676.  Youngest's reunion with a group he did some young leader training with, meant a day out in greater London for hubby and me.  We went to Kingston upon Thames for the day.

677.  We didn't know until we got there that it was the boat races day in Kingston and so we were able to spend a couple of hours down by the river watching them.

678.  That meant we also got to watch the swans for a while too.

679.  Although I was on the rota for Sunday's Cool yesterday, it was the first time in 4 weeks.  NOT BAD!

680.
